I don't understand, I started using melafix on my tank to help my Tang heal since she had a bite mark on her from my Blenny. She died last night after the 2nd dosing (woke up this morning to find her pretty much eaten by my hermit crab =( ) and now my tank is cloudy...I'm so pissed off because that is the only thing that changed, using the melafix. I'm worried about my other fish and inhabitants, they all look fine, but the water is cloudy.

Should I use a water clarifier or set up my QT to house all my current fish for fear of a crash? It would be very difficult to catch everyone... I'm really not sure what I should do, I started to make more water just to help clear it up a bit, but my reluctant to use more chemicals...uhg

    Any advice please!

    I'm sorry to hear
I don't know much about tangs and melafix so I will leave that to someone else

but you should run some carbon to help clear your water if your not already. also watch your ammonia levels. If they start to rise I would do a water change.

not sure if it was the melafix that actually killed the tang, but from now on I would put the sick fish and the chemicals in a QT tank instead of the display.

do a 20% waterchange to the tank and then see how it looks tomorrow to determine if it needs another one, also add some carbon filtration if your not already doing so.

I have used melafix and pimafix with my tangs multiple times. Ive never had one die during treatment of these... I would have to say there is some other thing involved in the death. However if your flow isnt the best (which it should be for tangs, they love the flow) Melafix helps deplete the oxygen in the tank for the fish.

Well the bite mark wasn't that big enough to kill the tang, and its the 3rd time its happened over about 6 months so I doubt that killed her. The only new factor here was the melafix. Before I only used Stress coat to deal with the bites, I have about 15x flow in the tank with a HOB skimmer which produces a waterfall as well so I always felt my oxygen levels have been fine, but the tang was breathing heavy last night, but was still swimming as normal, ate, even got a cleaning from my cleaner shrimp so nothing looked too out of the norm besides the breathing which I thought may be the medication.

Why is the tank cloudy now too? I've made 10 gallons of new water, so I'll change that later today. Is there anything else I should do/look out for? All my other fish/inverts look fine still.

Dude!!! Some blennies have poison in their fangs. Not all of them have fangs, but some do, and like I said, they have some poison. That's why rarely (not from own experience, but from what I've read) other fishes would rarely mess with a fang blenny for example.

This could very well be the culprit if more than 1 bite.

Edit: I would do a good water change to help anything remove/dilute anything bad in the water. 15% or 20% to start.

Just to make sure, because the cap on my melafix was broken, but was still sealed.

Melafix is normally a light tint of green, and smells slightly piney right? Just want to make sure it wasn't tainted or something.

Really poisonous blennies? I've never heard of that. I have a pretty normal, sailfin / lawnmower blenny, whatever name people recognize it by.

That would be a real shocker if that was the case.

Hmm.. well now I def. don't trust this bottle either. It def. smells something like pinesol. The green tint is pretty light, more clear than green I would say. This is such a downer. I was just getting ready to move tiki the tang into a brand new 90 gallon tank in 2 weeks. I thought the melafix would have sped up the healing so she wouldn't be as stressed during the move.
