if you run carbon that should take it out. I believe with that you aren't supposed to run carbon with it. The skimmer should also help. Just be careful, it is an antibacterial, and im not sure if it is considered reef safe. Watch dosing your display tank.

And if you use it, do not underdose.....some people underdose their meds thinking it will be that much safer for everything else. That may very well be the case, but it will do nothing but strengthen the infection that is plaguing the animal. By not killing off something completely, resistance raises it's ugly head.

I was looking at my bottle just today to see if it was reef safe. I couldn't find anything on it. I have only used it in my QT. So if anyone knows, please chime in. Both on Melafix and Pimafix. Thanks.

OK, but still dose correctly. Prophalaxis is good, but the dosing guidelines are still the same, just shorter in duration.

    Great answer!

i used this in my old system, i lost most of my sps's(only a few frags but still...) and a couple lps's. i dont know if i dosed wrong or what but it sure sucked, i would not recommend any of those products in a reef, QT only.

I used Melafix to help heal secondary bacterial infections from ich on my blue tang when we first got him. You need to remove carbon while treating, dose per the instructions. It will make your skimmer go nuts, so I recommend turning it off while treating, and feed more sparingly. I also recommend garlic xtreme on the food. When your done dosing, run fresh carbon for a day or so, then turn the skimmer back on - and monitor it for any needed adjustments. I don't recall losing any coral, but I may not have had any at the time, maybe a frogspawn, a leather, and trumpets.
What kind of fish are you talking about here? Sometimes fish scratch themselves on rock to knock off the ich. Blue tangs are notorious for that. If your tank is safe (no eels, trigger fish, hawkfish, puffers, etc) maybe get a cleaner shrimp.
