So in my search for a new fish that will hold its own against my springeri, I came across this fellow at my LFS. Anyone know anything about their requirements, temperament, etc? ANY info would be great. I included a link in case you only know it by what it looks like.

Also: I have a shrimp (and yes i know about the dottyback shrimp stuff); will it go after it?

looks like a fish we knew in the UK by the name Lunar wrasse
I recall they grow big and have a tendency to bully any other long this wrasse shaped fish

and if it is the same species - the image looks like it - a friend of mine had one in a 6 ft tank that was the boss of the tank and often bumped and prodded his clown trigger that was about 6 inches nose to tail

    Steve,

The do share some characteristics with lunare wrasses. However, there's one big difference. If there's trouble, there's a good chance the lunare wrasse caused it. LOL With a melanrus wrasse, at the first sign of trouble, they dive bomb the sandbed and hide.

All the melanurus I have seen might start out shy and somewhat timid but everyone grew into a wrasse hating, shrimp eating machine.... oh yeah dwarf crab eating as well.
He will hold his own with your Springer's Dottyback, at least after a week or two when he gets acclimated to your tank.
They are active, potential jumpers and a beautiful addition to a tank that is mildly aggressive and doesn't need crabs or shrimp.

Nice thing about them is they will eat planaria(flatworms) and many species of parasitic nudibranchs.

    Good luck!

hmm some things to think about. I may end up having to give the shrimp away anyway. Haven't seen the dottyback act agressive towards it yet, but everyone tells me it will eventually.
