Haha Congrats :). My Vrolick was out and about today being well behaved.

Your melanarus should be a great fish! Hopefully you get some nice shots!

    Thanks!

well, it hid right away... kinda expected that... I got a pic of it in the bag, but it doesn't do it justice... I'll post it in a bit anyway...

First, do they eat shrimp? no

Are they ok with fairy wrasses? yes

The guy at one of my LFS's swears by them, says he keeps them in all his reef tanks to keep them pest free.... liar

I may have an infestation of pyramid snails (will have positive ID later this week) and am considering one to mainly get rid of these... meh

I don't care if he eats my peppermint shrimp, but I am concerned about it eating my cleaner and harlequin shrimp.... wont

I've had one for a while, doesn't eat pests and won't eat my cleaner or peppermint.

Beautiful wrasse. I am sure it will make a great addition to your tank. Not to hijack your thread but can anyone tell if this is a male or female? If so, how?

Question then, do all females turn to males, or is it possible that a female will always be a female?

It's possible for a female to turn male, but it won't happen if you have no other Halichoeres wrasses in the tank. Even then, it might not happen unless there was another female Melanurus, and even then it's possible they'd both stay female.

Best way to get a male is to buy a male. ;) Which is what you have...

Also, most will go after a snail only if they get overturned, but some will leave those alone too. Mine tries to go after my hermits on occasion, but is rarely successful, and then he tends to get discouraged and moves on. You won't have any problems with the shrimp.
