Here is a better picture of mine.

Are you sure it's a male? How can you tell? I'm not doubting you, I just want to learn... ;)

Yeah, I posted that same link earlier, which made me think mine was a female... but evolved called mine a male, so I'm confused...

    Herp derp.

I crossed up ibefishy pics for yours... :-[

You have a female. The dead give-away is the "eye-spot" in the middle of the dorsal fin.

It is possible it could be a sub-dominant male (ie - in transition, if you will). Even if it is, that does not mean it will continue on it's own to terminal male without conspecific fish; it will likely stay just as it looks.

hrm... I really like the males... maybe I can get something else to turn it into one... what do you suggest? ;D

I do have one Pyle's fairy wrasse... not sure if this would affect the outcome or not...

    (slowly becoming wrasse addict, lol)

    It likely won't.

As I said, your best chance would be to add another female Melanurus, but there's no guarantees.

If I have a male, would it be ok to add a female to my tank? I really like the way the wrasses constantly swim around in the search for food picking at the rocks and such.

Most likely, but that's only if it's a female with complete certainty.

However, you could also add a different species of Halichoeres, and avoid the roulette game. ;)
