I ended up getting one a couple days ago. I just went downstairs, and I don't see it in the tank.

Would I have to worry about this guy jumping frequently? I have a hood, but there's about a 1/2" wide gap at the back, where he could get out behind the false wall.

Would this guy bury himself at night? I haven't looked at the tank this close to lights out since I got him, so I don't know if they do this.

I even fed the tank, but he didn't come out to eat. Any ideas?

Sounds like the same thing my Red Lined Wrasse did. They do bury themselves. So Pretty sure its getting comfy its surroundings and will pop out in no time. My Red Line Took about 7 days to be out constant. :)

They are slippery little guys so they can tend to make it out of tight spaces so it is a possibility it may have jumped. but If its not around the tank within a 10 foot radius Id say its Just hiding for time being.

My leopard wrasse buried himself for about the first month with only VERY occassional sightings.

Well, this melanurus has been out and about, all day, every day. The LFS had him for about a month before I got there, so he's pretty well socialized. He doesn't even run away when people walk up to the tank; he actually comes the closest to the glass while people are there, even closer than my tang will.

I was thinking of him burying himself for sleep. The LFS lights go off around 9, so he might be getting used to the schedule of my tank still. He's been in for 3 days.

Yeah, like I said, I'm guessing for nighttime. I'll check in the morning, at which point he'll probably be out and about like nothing happened.

I was going to post pics on my thread, but I noticed he was gaining more and more vivid coloration each day, I'm guessing as he got more comfortable in the tank. I was going to wait until that color gain was done lol.

they definitely bury themselves. i noticed a tank at my lfs the other day that was marked as having a melanurus wrasse. i asked the guys if they had already sold it so he raked his hand through the sand and out popped the wrasse. very cool looking fish.

Yeah, I heard some wrasses bury at night, which is why I thought he might be buried for the night. The thing is, I didn't see him for an hour before lights out.

I had just picked up a very small Leopard wrasse and sold my female Melanurus. I just talked to the woman who bought her and she said the wrasse hid for a week. The new Leopard was out from day one. I'm sure yours will come out once it's comfortable. They are very nice fish. Congrats.
