Yeah, melanurus do get big! And IMHO, would quickly outgrow a 46g tank.

The melanurus will eat feather dusters any chance they can get, but as a sie note, they eat flatworms and will keep pyramellid snails in check so if you don't want flatworms (and I don't know anyone that does) and you want a clam, a melanurus would be a better option than a pricey mystery wrasse.

    How about a fairy wrasse?

If i were to pay out big $$ for a wrasse, it would be a rhombus or a lineatus any day over a mystery.

i couldn't really find any info on the rhombus wrasse, does it go by another name? and if the melenurus were to outgrow a 46 i wouldnt want it then, since i'm looking for fish that would be able to live in the 46 for life. And as far as clams, i don't know if i would be able to keep one under the light that i plan to get

Well, here is a lineatus wrasse
Saltwater Fish for Marine Aquariums: Lineatus Fairy Wrasse - Reef Safe

    and a rhombus (rhomboid)
Rhomboid Fairy Wrasse, Golden Fairy Wrasse - Cirrhilabrus rhomboidalis

    A radiant
Radiant Wrasse, Orangehead Wrasse - Halichoeres iridis

This one always has my eye. And they don't get very big Tono wrasse
Tono's Fairy Wrasse - Cirrhilabrus tonozukai

Blue zoo has the mystery wrasse for like 120.
Mystery Wrasse, Tail Spot Wrasse - Pseudocheilinus ocellatus

But for the $$ that tono's wrasse is a heck of a beautiful fish.

Keep in mind all wrasses are known jumpers, so a lid or screening or something to keep them in a a wise idea.

    Sizzlin summer sale!

I was just browsing on liveaquaria.com and noticed they have the mystery wrasse on sale for 89.99 and remembered this thread. From what I have seen I think that's about 50 dollars or so off normal price. Cool looking fish too.

Actually it is like nearly 100 dollars off the Mystery wrasse.

I saw this the other day and meant to post it up here about the sale. I don't think you will find these mystery wrasses cheaper from any store.

fwiw, today I finally got my Radiant wrasse I have been looking for all over.

No Joe, no store for me, but a tank tear down sale:)

I got a smokin deal on it too, a 4" radiant wrasse and a 3" or so goby of some sort. I will have to post a pic of them in the bucket.

Plus they got to go for a motorcycle ride today LOL.

They will go in the tank in a few minutes.
