metal halide, heat question

    hey guys i was just wanting to know how hot your ballast ran, and where abouts you have them sitting. thanks in advance Brendan

    oh.. good one... Do you have a maganetic or electronic ballast..?

    me i keep mine on the floor on a old piece of floor tile or you could use concrete backer board so when the ballast does get super hot, the heat will not transfer and damage the floor wether it be carpet or hardwood...

    not hot at all, i keep it in my cabinet stand. only a 70w tho!

    mine runs hot, older but solid and it runs alot of light! I got a plate of aluminum from home depot about 2 feet square and mounted all my balists; alluminum radiats heat faster than just about anything....heat issue gone! just make sure you ground the plate to a plug before mounting it to the wall and powering it up otherwise it steals your ground and nothing is isolated.....after that it pulls heat out of anything mounting solid to it....
