I am planning on upgrading my light in awhile from my Odyssea 4bulb T5Ho fixture to either metal halide or LED. The tank is a 60g 48x15x18tall. For MH I was going to do two of these 150w pendants here. For LED I would go with 5 60degree PAR30 bulbs from boostled. LED would be cheaper then MH but I just want to get opinions on what you would do. Thanks

For me I would go with halide or a nicer t5 fixture. For me LED's just haven't been around long enough for me to completely trust them or know the solid fixtures out there. but I'm not a risk taker.

Depends on your situation. I personally prefer T5HO over MH's for your size of a system, for the simple fact that they run cooler. I've got no experience with the par30's, but they seem to be a good buy imo, especially for a tank of your size, and especially for $375.00 to cover your entire tank. I'd give the those LED's a shot.

This question again?!!! Plenty of info on both. Do some research...in the end no one is going to make the decision for you.

I know odyssea has a bad rep but are their MH/T5 fixtures any good? Here is the fixture, also this would be the cheapest out of all of them.

its just they arent the best..if your budget doenst allow you to get a 1200$ tek fixture then give odyssea a try..it also depends on how people take care of stuff..

I have no experience with MH, but for the boosts, I'd do 6 lights for your tank at no less white balance than 3B 2W. I have 4 over my 55 and I wish I would've gotten another. Our tanks our pretty close in terms of the length and depth dimensions. You could probably do with 5 but leave room for another if you need. I didn't so I had to supplement with some Cree's.

Sorry for my initial reply. It was uncalled for.

No problem, that is the exact answer I wanted. I believe a 55g is 7 inches taller then my tank, Do you still think I need 6? Also, the lights will be hanging about 6inches off the water, should I get 40 degree or 60degree optics?
