    Greetings All,

Its been a while since I've posted, but rest assured my reef tanks is doing better then ever. But I currently have 4 x 110 watt VHO lights over my 90 gallon and I'm dieing to introduce 2 x 250 watt MH lighting to the mix. I'll probably remove 2 of the VHO's at the same time.

The problem is this I have an all glass pine stand and matching pine canopy. I tried building a new canopy, but I can't get it to match the stand, and the tank is in the living room so its important that it matches.

Is there any possible way to get 2 x 250 watt MH into a regular all-glass pine canopy? I think after installed the bulbs would only be maybe 5 or 6 inches off of the water. I would have major heat issues but I could install a bunch of fans to combat that.

    Any thoughts.....am I crazy??????

    Sean,
Good to see you back. Don't stay away for so long next time :)
I'm not sure how much air you would have to blow to keep it under 82. I am using the overhead fan and it keeps going up to 84 degrees. I have heard of people using a walmart fan blowing across their sump to keep the temps down. We just had a long discussion about it. http://www.3reef.com/forums/general...-full-effect-36737.html?highlight=summer heat

I think if the bulbs will fit in your canopy and you can put at least an inch between them and the wood on all sides you should be able to do it safely.
The heat generated will have to be removed somehow..... Not much help today am I?

I have 4 t5 vho's and ironically just installed 2x250 MH's on saturday. I have a custom build canopy and will take pics of the setup for you.

It is VERY cramped and certainly not an optimal setup because 2 of the tek5' flouros hang over the reflectors for the MH lighs about an inch. Hopefully this post reminds me to do put the pics up, my brain has been in fail mode 2.0 lately :)

skennelly, a AGA Pine canopy only has about 5 inch clearance. You will need to make a custom canopy to house MH's. I think you should look for a Custom Canopy online or have a local member buid you one It will cost around 200 and up depending on wood used. But the basic AGA design is easy to build. I am working on one right now to house my TEK 8bulb T5's.

Good luck and i hope you find what you need.

    Thanks Guys,

Building a canopy isn't the problem. I actually did that already, but I can't get the color and wood texture to match my stand. The tank is in my living room and I want the canopy and the stand to match. I might get it to match to my standards, but my wife has different standards :).
