Metal Halides - do they scare you?

    If your really worried about it, change your standard oultlet plugs to gfci's. Any small change in current will trip them. These are the ones you are to have in bathrooms and kitchens with in two feet of a water source.
    In my opinion any one with an aquarium should be using them for their aquarium plugs. Just a little bit more piece of mind. Thats my 2cents

    My lighting shorted on my 150g tank in 1997. They were power compacts, I can't remember the brand, but they were expensive. My house probably would have burned to the ground had I not been home at the time. It was a long time before the desire to have a tank returned.

    At the end of the day, saltwater + electricity is worse than halides! :p

    The other major risk of fire is overloading the circuit its on. Most tanks with just the standard equipment is enough that it should have its own dedicated circuit. But usually we just plug everything in, and if everything in the house stays on we dont think nothing else of it. This is for like tanks starting at 55 gallons, not so much a biocube.
