Metal halides???

    K so today i was at homedepot. I was wondering if 2 philips 100 watt MH's would work on my 55 gallon. Could i get any type of corals i want?

    Are these halides like the ones you find in a work lamp?
    These will not work, your going to have to get real aquarium halides. These halides probably have a Kelvin of about 3500

    They are not like ones you find on work lamps it says on the box for aquariums. Am i looking for a lamp that has a higher kelvin or lower than 3500

    It has a 4200K bulb

    100w is weak and bulb selections is also. might just save up and get the real deal. imho

    if you are on a budget, I have seen others use the HD mh fixture with MH bulb, but I think some adjustment or replacement of the socket is needed, and you need to get a MH ballast. perhaps too much trouble, so I think you will be better off just getting a used fixture.

    I actually found a really nice fixture and im selling stuff in my ntank to afford it
