Does anyone here have experience using metronidazole in the DT to treat ich? When I contacted my LFS about my blue tang's ich and how I can't remove all my fish to my 10g QT, they recommended I dose my tank with seachem's metronidazole until things clear up.

Do I continue dosing it just until the ich clears up, or should I continue for 30 days to make sure all the ich in the sandbed/rocks get killed? Should I leave off my skimmer and carbon for that whole time? Does this stuff even work? Your opinions are welcome!

Don't dose your tank....use it with their food.

I would maybe even use No Ich as well, its reef safe and you could probably get away with dosing the tank with that and using the metro and focus to bind the metro to the food.

    Good luck

    Thanks....I should have mentioned Focus

With all of that said, I have found over the years is the best remedy for Ich is proper QT procedures for new fish and feeding well (adding vitamins and HUFA's to the food).

Thanks Inwall75 and Dr Frag, for your replies. My question is, if I am only dosing metronidazole in the food and not to the tank, how will the ich ever clear up? The fish will get better, but the parasite will persist in the sandbed. Am I incorrect in assuming that if I dose the tank rather than the fish, all the parasites should be killed if dosed over a 30 day period?

    Hello,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having some issues, but hopefully we can clear it up. Metro is more commonly administered orally- through food, as everyone else is stating, and is generally used for internal parasitic ailments and hexcemita. I wrote a small post about crypt that may answer some of your questions.
