    How can I get my Mg up and my Kh down?
    My Mg was at 1100, now its at 850...my Kh was at 16 now its at 15, I am comparing from test 4 days ago.

    during the 4 days I have been adding the epsom salt mix w/ RO water to try to get it up, but it seems to be falling instead. I used a whole 4 lb bag already of Epsom Salt.

    My Ca was 420, its now around 480+. I added a dose the other day!

    What can I do here to help the Mg and Kh? All other tests are perfect....Salinity is 1.024, temp is always 78.5.

    dose Mg enough to raise it 100ppm per day until you get to where you want to be. I would use a Mg supplement designed for aquarium use epsom salt is hit/miss for me

    for KH just don't dose until it comes down naturally

    what test kit are you using to test mag? if I find it hard to believe its gone down w/ dosing everyday. and once we know what brand of test kit, how are you doing the tests (step by step)..

    if your using red sea, its not whats left in the syringe at the end, but what amount of regent c you have used to get your results.

    I have used Kent and seachem they all seem about the same to me.

    epsom salt just has extra things in it. the first time i tried it it worked fine, but two other times epsom salt was not doing the trick for me.

    also I would not dose calcium above 450ish until you get your MG up to where you want it. someone on the forums had a great analogy for the balanceing of Mg Ca and alk

    think of red marbles as Mg, blue as Ca, and yellow as alk.

    You have a bowl that holds 100 marbles exactly. You have a certain number of red marbles, a certain amount of blue marbles, and a certain amount of yellow marbles. If one wanted to increase the blue marbles by 10%, the only way that can happen is if some of the red and yellow marbles were pushed out of the bowl.

    the bowls size increases with SG

    Wow...thats a relief!!!!

    So now the only thing I need to correct is the Kh....

    K+ Night-Rida....Thanks for clarifying that for me....I guess it would help also if I read the instructions all the way through...

    if you raise your mag another 100ppm, it should drop your cal. then once mag is at 1400-1500. raise your calcium to 475 again. this may lower your dkh 1-2.. I know red sea chart only stop at 1280. but you can do the math for higher readings. I'll do it for ya.. also make sure your salinity is 1.025-1.026

    reg. mag ppm
    c
    used

    .76 = 1520
    .72 = 1440
    .68 = 1360
    .64 = 1280
    .60 = 1200
