After doing a ton of research trying to decide what bulbs to purchast for my tank, (2 x 175MH) I started noticing a trend. I believe it is true that the lower the kelvin rating the higher the light output from a bulb from a single manufacturer. For example, Hamilton 10,000 is going to produce more available light than the hamilton 14 and 20k. (I know someone will try to debate me on this but, fact is fact and science is science.) With that being said, it is also believed that the higher the wattage used, but brighter the light. well..........no. While doing my research, my heart was set on a 15000K bulb (color) but I wanted the highest light output so here I went with research. I actually found that the iwasaki 15,000K 175 watt bulb puts out more PPFD (Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density) than 2 of the SPS (south pacific sunlight bulbs) These are the 14,000K and the 20,000K. During this research I also found that there were only 13 250 watt bulbs ranging from 10,000K to 20,000 that outperformed the iwasaki 175. What I'm trying to say is this. Wattage isn't everything. It's not the size of the ballast it's how you use it. thank you for reading and please leave feedback and tell me about your experiences
