I'm upgrading to a 48x24x16 for my sps frag tank and think I'm going to wait on going LED for a couple reasons, the main being the cost and the second being a few mixed reviews I've been getting over the last few months on LEDs. For that size tank, what all in one fixture or two fixtures would you recommend that looks great and I could hang high enough to keep from having to add a chiller. A MH and T5 combo would be fine as well, thanks.

In my limited research, I would think two 175 watt Hamilton units should work. It's a pretty shallow tank, so 2 250 watt units may not be necessary. I think an all in one Halide/T5 unit on a 24" width tank will be difficult to find. A 6-8 bulb t-5 unit could work.

    Marine land makes a good light. Has 2 150s and 4 t5

So if I were to go just T5s, 6 lamps wouldn't be enough for 24" wide? Also, would you go with a 48" fixture or could you do a 36"? I've never dealt with t5s so unsure of their spread.

Another option is the Aquaticlife fixture 2-150w HQI, 4 54w T5HO and 4 moonlight LED that are adjustable, built in timer which controls them separately. I have the fixture and absolutely love it!

You could go with a 6 bulb 48" fixture. It will have enough spread and it will do what you need.
