MH/LED lighting vs.T5/compact florscents

We'll I've ran both and with thus being a little of noob on here...I'd want your opinions on T5's vs.MH

we'll I like the fact that the MH I've run through in all my reefing is the taker for me...
as I've watched a few of the 1080p HD IMAX reef documentarys...It's so beautiful seeing the shimmer effect...;D

I don't see how can't have the shimmer....
I have buddies running 6-8 t5 Ho's and yes of course there reef is amazing but In my eyes It's just not all there with out the shimmer....
the fact that LED's do have this as we'll makes it even more cost effective and most likely will look into a switch up from MH to LED's in the future...:

who wins the halide vs t5 is highly subjective, t5 is usually a little more energy efficient, hence it will run a reef a few degrees cooler, its not a huge difference in most peoples tanks.

t5 bulbs last longer, however you need more of them.

halides will give you shimmer, t5 can give the corals flat colors that some people like.


Led's are the future are more efficient then both t5 and halide and supposedly last over 5 years. However since they are new, we haven't been able to see the performance of brands over the years yet. If you are a risk taker then you can try leds.

I don't understand why people would take away the natural beauty away by not having the shimmer effect...

The result? MH all the way! Best growth ive seen, best colors (IMO) and the shimmer effect is amazing

I love my LED's and so do my corals...but my wallet does not, at least not in the short term!

 

Yeah I just seen the new cree Led fixrures amazing lighting fixture...
