i have a MH lighting system w/ 4 t5 lights on it. my MH lights are 250w and i have 2 of the and it over heats my tank. i was thinking about droping down to two 150w bulbs. atm the 4 t5 lights im using are 2 10k and 2 actinics. i have lots of zoas and stoney coral with fish. now the MH bulbs that i can get are 6700k daylight, 10k white/full spectrum daylight, 15k white/ between 10k-20 daylihgt, or a 20k white whit a distinct blue tint. at some point ill be adding clams or corals that will need lots of light so what do you guys think?

The lower the kelvin the better the growth, higher the kelvin the better the color and less growth. IF its over heating it, just buy some fans.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Look at the Radium DE 20k, for white with blueish tint. Also the Phoenix 14k DE for more blue. Both add a lot of color. Growth for me is good to medium with either bulb.

With that said if it was my tank and I could run 250 watts, raise the fixture if possible or add some fans that is what I would do, if you are considering keeping sps.

what type fixture is it? Do the t5's have individual reflectors or are they grouped?

May want to consider a 14k bulb like mentioned, 2 x act's and then try some of the blue+ or purple+ in the other 2 sockets to give you a fairly rounded spectrum.

what im thinking is my MH and T5 lights are in the same unit im going to try to hang it. atm im just useing thre T5. the lights r 4 inches from the top. with two 250w MH lights im thinking if i hang it 8 -12 inches from the top i should be fine witout heat issues. its summer time here and i have a a/c unit in the same room so the heater is always on. and ill prob lower it when winter comes cause house gets cold at that time of year.
