mh on tank

    Would 2 vho actinic bulds and 2 50watt metal halide be ok on a 36 gallon tall tank. what do you guys think;D

    What are the dimensions of the tank? Length and wattage of the vho?

    the tank is very tall about 31 inches tall

    and the vhos are 29 watts i think

    Its going to be a frag/mantis tank

    sorry about the rought estimates i dont have the tank in front of me

    That's a very tall tank. I would use a 150w MH if I were doing that, the 50w (I didn't even know that made MHs in that low wattage) won't penetrate that far down IMO.

    What's the footprint on that size tank? To me it seems that it would be very top heavy and prone to being knocked over.

    I dont have the dementions the thing is i think with a larger buld like 200w i am scared it will get to hot.

    A 150w should be fine, many smaller tanks use that watt bulb with no great heat build up. Just make sure you have some distance from the bulb to the surface and you can always throw on a fan.

    I wouldn't keep a mantis in there..they like low light..intense lighting makes them more susceptible to shell disease..and I doubt he would come out too much. Just my opinion!

    My 36 isn't as tall as yours and I have a 150W MH over it. I would just go with one of those..probably cheaper than buying two 50's too.

    if mh arnt good what kind of lighting should i put over the tank
