    Hello everybody!

Long time lurker first time poster here wishing you all a happy new year and healthy tanks. Just got my tank setup so its time to get a lil cuddlie wuddums. Was wondering if anyone in the Miami area has a mantis shrimp they dont want. Preferably a wennerae or smithii, maybe a ternatensis.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to 3Reef!!!!

You can usually get wennerae from the Florida live rock companies.

Hey guys! Thanks for the warm welcome!

yeah not really sure how to contact them though. Need to talk to the LFSs round here and see if they can hook me up. One said they can get em fairly easily, so i'll look into it. Great thing bout miami is that there are 6 LFSs round my house and about another 20 down the road, not to mention the LR and LS dealers in the keys. yeah maybe ill put some pictures up, a lil' intimidated seeing other ppls setups though =p.

    Thanks again for the welcome

    -Daniel

heres some quick pics of my "setup" first pic is terrible, but its the 30 gallon ima put the mantis in (realizes now that 30g is over kill for a wennerae (u can see my mango tree through the window! =p)) second pic is better shows my 45 hex with sub par lighting that has a maroon clownfish (leclownski (wheres the money leclownski!?)) , purple pseudochromis ( which looks like a pasty white pseudochromis. somehow jeffrey jeff jeffrey has been living off of flakes for the past 3 years. trying to get him back on meatier food and hopefully he'll get his color back), a cleaner shrimp (lamar), and nahmanemonemomonemome (little cousin trying to pronounce anemone which is now its name) the LTA.

30 gallon is great for a peacock mantis. You should get one of those.

That's exactly what I was thinking :D Look up the videos on youtube of "Mr. Mantis". He's a peacock...really interesting videos. My uncle lives down in Miami by the way. My mom grew up down there. :)

Not to mention peacock mantis are one of the easier ones to find.

Wennerae are pretty easy to find but don't have much personality. They are active but are not interactive.

Smithii are the best of the small species IMO, but good luck finding one. I have asked every local fish store in my area and none of them have one. I have been searching online and can't seem to find one either. Occasionally I will find "lime green mantis shrimp (gonodactylus sp.)" they don't give you the species of them.
