This may have to do for now. I plan on getting my refugium going this weekend. I'm planning on running my skimmer return over to my refugium for my supply. I believe that will take care of my "micro bubble mayhem!"

That depend on how long the return pipe is back to the refugium. The longer it is the more it will effect the water level inside of the skimmer. You may have to do some adjustments to the air intake.

    Hey Dave-

I finally got my digital camera, so here's a picture of what I've been talking about. The return pump is directly behind the skimmer.

    Thanks,

    Cowboy,
2 things jump out at me when I see this.
One is the water level is way high.
Two your skimmer water level is too high, mostly because of the water level in the sump area.

My skimmer is almost the same as yours but I have a sponge going across that divides the skimmer/pump from bio balls.

I attached another 90 degree elbow and a 5 inch pipe to the out put pipe of the skimmer and then pointed it to the sponge.

Every 3 or 4 months I have to replace the sponge because I get micro bubbles.

I agress about the sump level, it's pretty high, but as long as it can handle the overflow from the tank when turned off, it should be ok.

But, judging by the skimmate, the skimmer looks dialed in to me.

    Matt,
See that small blue line on the front of the skimmer about 2" from the cup? Thats the water line or where it should be.
The way you have it now the cup will overflow in half a day.

    I gotcha.
But his crud is pretty darn dark. Maybe that was before he tweaked it? :-/

    Hey guys-

I wasn't sure about the water level in the sump. I've been told that as long as it doesn't "overflow" when I shut off the pump it is ok. Now, water level in the skimmer. I had it at the "water level line" on the skimmer for a long time. When I put the blue fiber around the outlet to reduce the micro bubbles, the water level went up. The fiber is sort of restricting the return water flow some, so I had to close off the air some or it would constantly overflow.

Also, the water level in my sump really doesn't effect the water level in this skimmer. The skimmer return height is adjustable. The higher you raise it, the higher the water level is in the skimmer, and vice versa. But if I open up the air line more, she'll bubble like mad! It seems to be working pretty good. That's as low as I can get the water level in the skimmer with the blue fiber on the return.

    Thanks,

Nautilus- Do you have a picture of your skimmer set up? I'd like to see what yours looks like.

    Thanks,
