Does your overflow have an adjustment to lower or raise it in the dt.Lowering it will allow more water in the overflow chamber and less of a fall for the water entering the overflow chamber from the dt causing less bubbles.

Since you already have it set up (would be better if return was on the right) you need some kind of sponge to catch the bubbles like in the sump of the other pic. Do you have the round sponge over the intake on the return pump?

yup lol there are 3 sponges so far. 1 of the overflow box sponges over the intake hole. 1 on a baffle, and 1 on the return's intake. still a little microbubble in the DT though. (plus with all those sponges and in the sump like they are, it looks like the sketchiest sump ever.) lol

Hmm....is there anything else going into the return chamber of the sump like a phosphate reactor or something?

nope I want to put some lr, ls, and cheato in the refugium soon but I need to get this fixed first. I was think though if a tee fitting would work? one side straight down and one side 1" above the water line, so air goes up and water goes down. but is there any other solutions? durso? stockman?

i think the ticket would be to stop the air from being sucked down the overflow from the get go , mine has a straw that sits in the bulkhead and goes into the tubing a little ways its a way to let the trapped air to flow out before being sucked into the sump , it also cuts down on the slurping noise the overflow makes
