Hey everyone, I've had my sump and refugium up for about 6 months now and I just added some cheato over the weekend. No matter which way I place the inlet or what angle I put it I get micro bubbles. The microbubbles attached to the ball of cheato and made it float. I am curious if the microbubbles will have a negative effect on the cheato? Thank you for your help.

Nope, none at all. Some even add an airstone to their fuge under the chaeto to keep it clean and enhance it's functionality with good results.

Thank you. I am still battling with the micro bubbles. The only way they go away is to turn the flow down and I don't want to turn it down to much. I don't want the functionality of the fuge to be inhibited because the flow is to low.

Any idea what's causing your bubble issue (skimmer, drain, etc)?

Also, if the microbubbles aren't making it to your DT (you didn't say one way or the other), does it REALLY matter?

I didn't say, sorry. They are not making it to the dt. My fuge and skimmer section are on separate sides Of the sump with the return in the middle. My overflow piping is t'd off and goes to the skimmer section and one to the fuge.

I don't really know where the microbubbles are coming from.

It doesn't really matter, sometimes my reef keeping OCD wont let me stop thinking of things till I resolve what I think is an issue.

Where is the end of your drain line sitting? Does the water drop into your sump, or does the water exit the drain line beneath the surface of the sump's waterline?

I've found that you generally get more bubbles if the drain line sits above the waterline.

    Just a thought...

I've got a T at the end with one end completely submerged and the other end of the T partially submerged. Don't know if I make sense. I had just a 90 on there before and the microbubbles were a lot worse. I dont know. Maybe its just something i have to learn to deal with. Thanks for the help though.

It sounds like you have micro bubbles at the end of your drain line......If I read all of this correctly. If that's the case, it's normal. That's what your drain does.
