I just got some Seachem Purigen and it says on the bottle to use a fine mesh filter bag.
I only have 300 micron filter bags....will this be ok to use with it?

I don't thing 300 will not be fine enough. You can use panty hose of the 300 micron doesn't hold the media.

I think it will be plenty fine as long as the media doesn't fall out, you should be ok. I don't know exactly what size the media is in Purigen, but if it's anything like carbon or ferric oxide, you should be fine.

    its very very small Guitarman

SeaChem have a product called "The bag" and this is 180 micron mesh so you need that or finer IMO to ensure it does not escape

I have used a stocking on occasion and found even with that you do need to double it up as some of the granules can escape through a single stocking layer

maybe the 300 micron mesh doubled up would be worth a try?

but if you can get a 180 micron or can find "The Bag" that would probably be the best option IMO

    yes....they are tiny little balls!

I will try to double them up and see if that works.

Where should I place it...right in the flow from the tank, in the sump?

Doesn't Seachem make bags that are designed for use with Purigen??

I place purigen bags in the tray that is directly in the flow of the sump... you'll notice that a strong current 'agitates' the little resin balls, I figure this must help to maximize exposure. My water has been so clean lately though that they grow algae on them before they turn any color other than white.

Their 100mg container comes prebagged if that is what you mean.

placing bag near intake is a good place but make sure there is not too much flow that can make it less effective.
