I set up my vortech so it will run on the battery backup at half power during the night for noise reasons. I also set the battery backup charger so that it will not run during that time. This should help extend battery life to cycle the battery each night, and it will also give me a quick indication if there ever is a problem with the system.

All that's left to do now is get my livestock in and tune the dosing units to keep up with their requirements.

 

I added my clams and urchins last night. I also got the wave box tuned to work well finally. I'll have a video up soon, but for now here's a couple of pictures.

 

Is the Vortech pump really that loud?

Not really, but when the light fan isn't running its the only audible thing on the tank. It's definitely noticeable at night time. One of my biggest goals with this tank was to eliminate noise from my tank.

Despite not having much control over them (except for being on a timer) I like my koralia nano 425s. I have 2 in a 10g tank so the flow pattern is pretty random. They are dead silent, as is the Koralia Nano-Skim skimmer. I used to hear clicking when they turned on and off, but this no longer seems to be an issue. Yay.

Is there a fish in the wavebox/overflow area?

 

I support that goal. Is that even with them in sleep mode?

 

Koralias are still probably the most used and best pumps on the market. Vortechs can't be beat, but their price definitely makes them more of a luxury than a need for a reef tank.

 

When the controller switches the Vortech over to battery backup at night, it's dead silent.

 

One little note today.

My auto top off has only gone through about a gallon in the week since I set it up. At this rate, the tank will run without help for about a month at a time.
