I'm thinking about getting either a Wonderpus or Mimic Octopus around Christmas time. I've done research, and talked to friends who have/had one. I have a nice 40 gallon waiting for him in the garage. It's cycling. Does anyone on here have experience with any of these two octopi? Thanks. :D

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    My experience with mimic octo.

Beautiful animal but not suited for a captive environment IMO. They have a very short life span. I never had one make past 4 months. Aging them upon arrival is very difficult.

This is one animal that I would not try again nor do I recommend taking them from the wild. Yes I did, but I did not know better at the time.

Keeping a common octopus is just as rewarding and easier IME.

Lastly they do not ship well.

I'd expect the octopus to kill itself during shipping with its ink and I dont have much experience with octopi either, but good luck anyway!

Thanks for the warning. I'll probably heed it. :) I don't really care about the changing shape and color, I don't think they do in captivity anyways. I'm more interested in the coloring and body structure. Do you know of any octopus similar in those factors? Thanks for the help. :D

I have been thinking of doing an octopuss tank with a 55 i have sitting for a while now, think it would be pretty cool. was turned off by the lifespan of the mimic.

There are others. Lol. Just don't get one that's poisonous, or that has a short lifespan. :)

Wonderpus tend to just sit around in a captive environment. Bimacs are much more interactive.
