I'm thinking of setting up a Nano tank in the bedroom, and would like to use a skimmer that would be less noisey. I see a air driven skimmer in the Foster and Smith cataloge called the Miniflotor. I believe their made by Aqua Medic.Anyone know anything about these skimmers?

Being in this hobby for a while I've owned a few air stone driven skimmers and I can tell you they do work. However, they are not always quiet. Air pumps can be quite loud actually. If you put the pump in the stand, that should help a bit. Try out the pump you will need if you can before you buy to hear what I am talking about.

There is some maintenance with air stone skimmers too, you should scrape the slime build up off the air stone every 2-3 weeks and replace it every 4-6 weeks. That is what I did.

Alternatively on a small tank (20 or less, I don't think it's that good for anything bigger from my experience) I am comfortable recommending the Remora since I had one, but it's not dead quiet either - but close enough I thought.

I would go with a remora. There are tricks to quieting the remora and mine ran nearly silent after the easy mods...no microbubbles either.

    I would avoid air-stone skimmers.
