I thought I heard some different noises from my bed in my bedroom, but didn't get up to investigate until 0715.
Did I say I had to leave for work at 0845?

Quickly looking at my DT- everything seemed status quo.
Investigating the sound (I've never heard before), led me to my basement sump room.
My main part of my sump was nearly dry! The sound was from my RP (DC12000)- pumping the column of ater in the 10ft pipe up to the tank, but with the sump nearly dry, it just kept water in the pipe.

I quickly unplugged it and the pipe water ran back in the sump- small amount.

I put my hand on it, it was not hot to touch, mildly warm maybe.

I had the RO/DI feed to my ATO resevoir off, and it had already emptied the ~5g of water into the sump. I checked the DT SG 1.025/34.
My heaters are in my sump, and the temp had dropped about 1.5degrees.
All my power heads in the DT still going like nothing happened.

In an hour and a half, I was leaving for at least a 12 hr shift at work- and my family while I love them- they are not correcting this.

I had the option of leaving no sump flow x ~14hrs., or getting my sump flowing again and even though I had no RO/DI water on hand at the time this morning.

I commited one of the Cardinal Sins- I used Tap for at least 90% of my water replacement- I did get the SG to par with the DT however.
The RP is working just fine, silent once again while operating.

This was over 8 hours ago and I'm just getting time to finish this note b/c I'm so busy at work today- sick people- go figure.

So, with any luck I'll come home to all my corals still looking well, etc.
Fish, even inverts are easy, it's all my coral I'm concerned about.

Wish me luck, I'll update tonight when I get home,
    Todd

    +1

When it comes to emergencies, tap is better than no water at all. Even with 300 TDS, you still have 999,700 PPM H2O. Now calculate the amount you added with the total volume of your system...

Contrary to popular belief, if your tap water is drinkable, it will not poison your tank. It usually takes months (or even years) of continuous use to experience any adverse effects.

    Thanks OFK-(Mindy),
So far pretty good, just got home over 13 hrs. later and all seems well.

    Thanks Mr. Bill,
I had those similar thoughts, and didn't want to keep my sump offline for at least 13hrs. I too think it would have been worse that way.

Why yes! I have a thread on it somewhere. If you'd like more info/feedback on it, PM me. In a nutshell-awesome pump, especially for the price you can get them for off Ebay, etc.

    Well all,
I came home from work and added another 5-6g to my sump of
RO/DI-salted water to bring my sump up to it's normal operating height.

So, what's an unplanned 25% WC? I just did a 10% - planned one the day before!

so glad to hear everything is good to go! And you're right, nothing wrong with an additional amount of water change :)

Today, things look about the same.
Checked my SG again today, slightly higher than usual actually, but only very slightly.
I'm adding some RO/DI slowly and getting it where I like to keep it, which is about 35.

That was really scary having to deal with that in the morning of a 12 hr. work day!
