Is Miracle Mud effective? It's been around for quite a while, but I never hear about it.

I'm thinking of using it in a hang-on refugium.

I have used it in my fuge 75g initially. As far as what if contributes to the overall effectiveness of the tank I'm not sure. I do know I got some really great growth off my mangroves though in my fuge of my 75g compared to the ones I have just plain in the HoB fuge on my 29g.

I wanted to use miracle mud in my fuge as well, but the price tag for some mud was killing me... I looked into using kitty litter instead. It contains the same ingredients for much much cheaper. A 25 pound bag at Walmart is 3 dollars or so. But if you decide to use kitty litter instead make sure you use a natural clay litter. I honestly dont know how much of a difference it has been making as I have never run a fuge without kitty litter, but my fuge is very healthy.

Here is the kitty litter I used.

I went with the kitty litter method in my fuge and as soon as my mangroves' roots reached the kitty litter under my DSB they have exploded with growth. The same has happened with my macro algae.

HMMM now i feel like an idiot if I could've used that just the same!

But, i did notice that all the polyps poked out more and my corals started growing alot faster once I added it!
