So yesterday I received an Orange spotted Goby and acclimated it properly.

It was in the tank and was hanging out in the open checking out the new tank.

It got along with other tank mates; however, when I fed the tank, the goby did not even budge. Moreover, as the day progressed, he would sit on the bottom and do this weird thing like hop- and open his mouth real big and then settle down...

Eventually the lights went out and I could still see him in his same corner and I went to bed...

This morning, the goby is no where to be found...

Think the cleanup crew did its job? Or do you think he is in the rocks somewhere??

    Thanks

I would say he is in the rock work. While I am not sure about your exact type of goby I have had diamond gobies that will hide in the rock work and sand for days when introduced to the tank.

On the flip side gobies jump out of tanks all the time so put some type of protection to keep them in.

Yeah, I hear ya on the jumping... I have a pretty tight hood on the tank so, dont think it was that...

I guess I'll have to be patient and see... It is just odd that he was out and about all yesterday and even at night and now he is no where to be found.

I just hope my shrimp didn't get to him or something...

I have a watchman goby and an orange spot goby. Both are little engineers and built caves. The watchman skips all over the tank, isn't shy, and never hid. It took the orange spot goby about 3-4 days to build a den, and then feel comfortable being seen. Watch for piles of sand around your rocks. He'll come out in time, leave him alone or you'll stress him out more. Mine is now very personable and rarely hides.

I agree with the other.. Added Pink and Blue spot Goby about a week and a half ago and he hide for about 4 or 5 days and only came to the edge of rock work for feeding. He has finally started to warm up and will sit out in the front on the tank..

    The goby finally showed himself!

However, he is not eating... I thought Gobys sift through the sand?

That's good! He's just getting used to your tank. Again, it took mine several days to make himself comfortable in his new digs and start eating.

Mine started by taking some mysis shrimp, and is now sifting so much sand he's like a bulldozer. Sand is constantly being moved all over the place. ::)

He also eats the Omega One marine pellets I feed as well. He's a pig. Definitely fattened up since I got him a couple weeks ago.

As ZachB says they will take a bit to start eating.. Mysis shrimp is also what I am using. I am target feeding him to make sure he is eating enough but slowly he is getting more adventurous. He takes the syringe like a baby bottle...to funny to watch.
