Ok, so after the lost of my bluespot jawfish- RIP, I decided to purchase I pearly jawfish. After I acclimated he dove back into the rocks. I havent seen him since. Its been almost a week. I keep feeding and dont see him. None of my snails or hermits are surronding an area like they normally do when something dies so Im hoping he's still alive. If hes not I have no idea where he could be. I checked for jumpers also and no sign of that.

Anything I can do to see if hes still alive and hiding somewhere behind my rocks?

I have a pearly living in my refug in my sump! He jumped the overflow and somehow got down there. The way the tank is set up there is no way I can ever get him out....so I figure he has a great place to live....some cheato, mud and all that a jawfish would want. Not sure if he has jumped yet cause I can not see him all the time....I dont think I will get another jawfish for that very reason. I had a blue spotted jump through egg crate opening the very first night I had him and now the pearlyBut you might want to check the overflow and sump to see if he is there?Hope you find him

I guess I will just have to pull the rock out eventually I wanted to do it anyways so I can get my hawkfish out of there

doesn't sound good; mine always came out to feed; and they usually dance in and out of their burrows all day. They are a peaceful fish and easily antagonized IMO, especially when they dont have a burrow to retreat to yet. Do you have any agressive fish in there with it. They also move around a bit when first introduced (or at least mine did) until they find a spot they like.

I've never had a jawfish but I have a blue hippo tang that I didn't see for a week after I put her in. She finally came out one day because she was starving and started picking at pods and algae and has been swimming around like normal since. Maybe it's still freaked out and will eventually appear?

I've have a lot of experience with these and they are sometimes difficult to acclimate when other fish are present in the tank. They may hang out within the rocks/back of the tank where you cannot see it for a few weeks until it gets enough nerve to find a better home. I had one living within my rock work (probably had a burrow where I couldn't see it) for almost a month! I figured it died off but one day the little guy appeared! I wouldn't move any rock work just for the jaw but if your going to for other reasons then do it and I'm sure you will find it just be careful not to crush him because its probably buried in there good.
