    The short(er) story:
Bought 2 scooters, one doing great, the other hardly moved. Several hours after lights out I was unable to find the smaller one who wasn't doing very well. This morning, still no signs. I've looked everywhere, and with only one hermit right now I don't see how he could have finished her off over night.
Does anyone know if these guys will bury themselves, as they do when they sleep, when taking a turn for the worse?

    The long story:

Went to the fish store yesterday, they had scooter blennys(dragonette). I asked their fish guy what they fed them, and if he could feed them before I purchased on. He told me they eat algage sheets, and that's all they ever feed them. I told him their carnivores, that can't be healthy and then he told me that as long as they ate they'd be fine.
I felt bad for the 2 scooters they did have, one is 2", the other maybe 1". I've got a crazy amount of pods, so I took them both home hoping to save them.
I acclimated both fish for about 2 hours before adding to the tank. The larger one is male, and the smaller is female. The male began moving around, and picking at rocks immediately. The smaller one moved 3-4" while the lights were on, but would flare her dorsal fin occasionally and was breathing normally.
A couple hours of lights out, I could not find the female... the male was buried in the sand.
Now today, I still can't find the smaller one and I'm worried she didn't make it through the night. I've looked everywhere, and with only one hermit right now I don't see how he could have finished her off over night. Does anyone know if these guys will bury themselves, as they do when they sleep, when taking a turn for the worse?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Have you checked your overflow? Give it a couple of days, new fish will tend to hide.

I had a sick one at one time and moved him into my fuge--He stayed there for a couple of weeks and recovered--went on to live just fine. While he was in the fuge. You could be looking right at him and not see him. They do bury while stressed. Give her time and see what happens. That is really all you can do....good luck!!

As always, thanks for your input Luna! No overflow on this cube tank. So thankfully, no fish in the overflow ;D

I do hope she is just hiding due to stress. Don't like the thought of a fish buried itself dead in my tank though, this tank has done 10x's better than my first SW setup.

    Thanks :)

I work for Nissan, and our Training Center is in Irving. I have a good friend near you in McKinney. Have you ever been to Dallas North Aquarium?? Also a real nice store in Arlington called The True Percula.

Dallas north aquarium is about 15 minutes from me. I try to go to them last for things, as their prices are unusually high 99% of the time and I like to support the smaller local shops. They do have just about everything though.
Thanks for the suggestion to the other store as well.

Well, she has yet to turn up anywhere... I fear the worse.
Unfortunate that the fish store fed them in such a poor manner.

On a brighter side of things, the male is doing well and has actually noticeably gained somewhat of a stomach(much better then his original sunken in "v" belly)
