not bad. pending on what u want to keep. if you want anything that rests on the sand bottom alot it could scratch up their belly. like sandsifters, jawfish or any other fish that interacts with the sand bed frequently. however some creatuers like to have varied size sand particles to create burrows.

It won't stay "mixed". The smaller sand particles will settle below the larger crushed coral leaving a crushed coral substrate with a sand base, basically.

watchmen\shrimp goby and a coral goby so have the coarse crushed coral where they want there burrow to be unless shrimp and goby paired up don't like coarse crushed coral!

Hate to break it to you, but no, you won't. I have all regular sand and all the coarser stuff is on the top. That's how it works.

Just FYI you will want fine stuff for the possum wrasse, they burrow at night and coarse sand can scratch them anf lead to disease!

In my 150 I have fine sand running the entire length of the tank bottom, but in one area I have added coarse ground coral on top for those creatures that like that type of substrate.

I have to say it looks pretty darn nice too :)

what I saw in a LFS one time that looked pretty cool was they had the normal fine sand throughout the tank, and then just around the edges they mixed in the crushed coral all around the paremeter of the tank! I thought it looked very nice, however I would never have crushed coral in a tank as they are harder to keep clean and are great detritus collectors.
