I was wondering if you can mix CC and live sand?? I got a used tank about a month ago maybe a little longer and it came with CC. By the way its a 75 gallon. I am currently running a small reef in my 29 gallon tank with live sand and wanted to transfer everything over to the 90 gallon tank. Is this posibble?? This is my first upgrade and I'm very nervous and have ALOT of questions about it. I have a few pics of both the tanks. Oh and any suggestions on the aquascaping??

Within 4 or 5 months, you're sand will be on the bottom and you'll only have CC on top. Most people don't like CC because it tends to trap detritus where it rots causing nitrates.

It's strange how the larger stuff works it's way to the top..you'd think it'd be the other way around but it's not.

So how would I do it then?? Do I take all of the live rock out then the CC then put the live sand in?? I would have to get more live sand wouldn't I?? How would that work out?? I have fish in my 29 gallon and if I take out all of the sand and put it in the 90 and add more sand wouldn't my parameters be affected?? wouldn't the fish be affected?? I'm so worried about all of my stuff. Would the tank go through a whole new cycle?? I know it's a lot of question but I said I was confused! LMAO!!

disturbing the substrate is likely to start a mini cycle... you could take out and replace whats there, just keep an eye on your params... a 10-15% water change would not be bad either.

I would remove the CC and not reuse much of the live sand thats in the smaller tank.
Take the rock out of the big tank, take all the CC out. Put the rock back into the big tank and then add normal aragonite sand back to it to fill in around the rocks. Then when your ready to transfer the small tank to the big one add a couple cups (or more) of the sand from the small tank to the big tank to seed it.

Adding the rock first and then the sand allows for more stable rock work and reduces the chance of a landslide once fish start to dig.
