So after my previous thread about clearing up my water, I was looking at getting some Purigen and was wondering if I could mix it with something like PhosGuard in the same filter bag or if I needed to place each type of media in it's own bag. Does anyone know if it's ok to mix two different types of media in the same bag?

I don't think you would want to do this. When Purigen gets exhausted you can regenerate it back by soaking the media bag containing it in bleach water. You can't regenerated Phosguard. But I think you can mix Phosguard with carbon. That is what Seachem's SeaGel is.

Ok, thanks. I guess I'll have to get two bags then.

    +1 on Tronb24 for me
Purigen can be regenerated where Phosguard cannot
so 2 filter bags is ideal

Seagell is a mix of carbon and Phosguard
but again in my reef tank, my carbon I like to change every 4th week, whereas depending on P04 levels - you might want to run Phosguard for longer

so I purchase both products independently and mesh bag them independently
