I have an Eshopps R-100 2nd generation refugium. I am very pleased with it but the skimmer section is a tad bit small for the kind of skimmer I would like for my tank. The space I have to work with now is 11.5"x6.5".

So I am wondering if I can remove one of the baffles to make room for a larger skimmer. Removing the baffle would increase my skimmer area to 11.5"x7" which would allow me to accommodate the skimmer i'm eyeing (BUBBLE-MAGUS - Aquarium Internal skimmer|external skimmer|Dosing pump|Calcium reactor|Nitrate reductor/NO3 reductor|Filters|Turtle shell lampshade|Water monitor and controller|Additives|moonlight LED).

My first thoughts are to try to tap it out with a hammer and screwdriver or cut the baffle out as close as I can to the outside wall but I could also picture it cracking the sump. I wouldn't be heart broken if it broke, it would suck, but I do have a back up sump and at that point i'd make or buy a larger sump/fuge.

it is possible, but like you already know, i think you run a pretty high risk of cracking the sump. But, if that did happen then you could go ahead and make a sump to your exact needs.

I would probably use like a acrylic cutting knife to score all 4 sides of the piece a good bit, then tap it with a hammer. At Least then the piece would be weakened.
If you can't get all 4 sides, the I would score as much as I can with the 2 sides, then hit it from that side.

    Just my thought

Home Depot or Lowes. Go to the section where the plexiglass and acrylic is sold. They are like $5.00.

If I'm not mistaken, acrylic gets more brittle as it ages, though I could be wrong. If I'm correct with this, then I would recommend that you take the age of the tank into consideration. If not, get the knife and go for it.
