looks great MoJoe! hey i recently read someone complaining about a Cardinal going after their firefish which resulted in the death of the firefish. i have wanted 2 of the cardinals but don't want my helfrichi to get attacked, even though my one helfrichi goes after my dotty backs, even had a fight with an anthia.. very odd helfrichi. don't mess with that little fish! i laugh when i see him chasing the other fish out of his area.

 

Thx, I've had a pair of Banggai Cardinals for a few years since my old tank. I luckily had gotten a male/female pair and they would constantly breed. They really were fairly docile until they were breeding, then they were a bit aggresive towards the other fish.

Recently my female came down with a case of lymphocitis and she healed but then it came back worse and her it got into her eye somehow. I sadly had to put her down, she was a mess. So, I'm left with just my male, he seems lonely . I actually noticed him being more aggresive than normal to my Harlequin Tusk, maybe he's just frustrated, poor guy.

 

sorry to hear about your female cardinal. thats sad.
maybe you should get another cardinal. maybe they are more aggressive without a mate? maybe get one that is small. I'm guessing like most fish they become male or female in time. i can tell you most say dotty backs are aggressive. but i don't find that to be true. mine are so busy with each other they could care less about other fish. i bought them young and they paired. they are now laying eggs. none of the eggs make it the snails get them, the dotty backs really need to find a better home to leave have their bubble nest. not in the sand under a clam shell. they can't protect them there since the snails go threw the sand to get to the nest.

 

Thanks, yeah it was a bit sad, that pair of cardinals was one of my first fish from my old 55g reef. I forgot about the male to female change, interesting, I thought I noticed him wearing lipstick this morning, maybe he's a she now

 

Busted my butt this weekend and cleaned my cube up really good. There was coraline all over the place. I scrubbed most all off the viewable sides and left it on the back & a bit on left-side (which is against a wall).

Moved a few rocks here and there in the process, very happy so I made a little video. It shows my new add of a small Coral Beauty and my Aussie Tusk is such a ham:
