Mollys in saltwater O.o

I found out a while ago that mollies can accually live in saltwater when properly drip aclimated (if no one believes me there happens to be one in my saltwater tank) I never knew that a lps accually knew something about the fish they sell. Joking around aside, apparentally they can live in saltwater due to the fact that they are commonly swept out to sea in the wild.(or something like that)
Just wanted to share some interesting information.

People also acclimate Mollies because they are cheap and then use them as live food for there huge eals, tiggers, frogfish and other monster fish.

 

I was thinking about doing that if I ever get a ped. tank *evil grin*
My lfs accually has a shark egg case that would be awesome to have, if only I had a spare tank that big.

 

I would love to get a Sting Ray or Skate for my 75 gallon tank! The only thing it would have to be a species that remains small! I know there are brackish and freshwater rays that I could get! They are fascinating and so docile...plus they will come up and eat out of your hand!
Yeah, I've seen Mollies in saltwater-they are livebarers though and thus get ICH easily!!!!! Not what we need!

 

I used mollies to start my salt water cycle, and to check and see if my tank was live stock liveable However, THey are the hardest things to catch, I ended up taking all the rock out of the tank to get them all when I upgraded to better fish

 

I used them to cycle tanks back in the day and used them as live feed for a lion fish i had back then also... I bought 32 to start a 120gal once, when the cycle was done the first fish i bought for the tank was a trigger. Let me just say that the mollies didnt agree with my choice of fish and in a matter of weeks they were all gone :.

Have I got a blue spot ray for you LOL he is hand tame tap the rim of the tub and he will slide up and look you in the eye and wait to be hand fed. Kids that come into the shop love him to death . We call him spot I'll see if i can get a pic and post him for y'all

Oh and as for Mollies they re a salt marsh fish as are the guppy and a few other F.W aquarium fish. That where acclimated from brackish/salt to F.W to begin with.. And as for Millie's and Ich salt in the F.W tank will ward off ich in them as with about all F.W fish I used to keep a little salt in all of my F.W tanks as a kid.. One tbl spoon per 5 gals of uniodized table salt.

 

yea, FW ich and SW ich are totaly different. In FW you use salt to kill ich, because it is a fungus. But in SW ich is a parisite that lives on the fish the burrows into the skin. If anything the molly would do better in salt. Ive just read they dont reproduce as fast in SW. But thanks for bringing this up, alot of people dont know this,

With saltwater ICH, you can help to rid it by decreasing the salinity of your water! Do it gradually though or you unleash other potential problems! when you get the salinity to roughly 1.020, keep it there for a week or son then SLOWLY increase the salinity to 1.024-26 again.

 

Really??? Cause when i had then they were popping out babies like rabbits.
