Hey there looking at starting a 75gal SW tank, but before i jump in i really want to get a poll from our more experienced reefers. once your tank is up and running how much do you spend every month? I just want to know so i can fit it into my budget of monthly costs.

Well, really that depends on what you are dosing, how many water changes stuff like that. It will vary from person to person, but I would GUESS around 50-100$ a month depending on how much salt/water and w/e you are dosing(if you do at all). O and if you are making your own water or buying it.

It's far cheaper to make your own water. And I would agree that the monthly cost break down is really dependent on your personal set up. Would estimate my cost at absolute most is $100 a month and I have several tanks. I could be wrong but I think the greatest cost is the set up. After your tank is established it's fairly cheap and easy to maintain. Hope this helped!

depends on what i buy, some months ill load my tank with coral whereas other months my tank just kinda chills. id say the most ive spent in a month is probably around 600 dollars. and the least ive spent is probably 20 bucks on salt for water changes.

I think its cheaper to make your own water, its 50 cents a gallon to buy it here, im not sure how much the filter cartliges are though.

depends, i have a ro/do system that takes 10-12 gallon to make 5 gallon and cost bout 250 to buy. I can also get ro/do water at the krogers by my house for 40 cents a gallon. so add your variables like availability of ro/do water and distance to get it and your cost of water per gallon and see what would be cheaper for you. id say buying it but gotta add convenience factor in too.

Once you own a RO/DI system the cost averages less than a nickel a gallon for RO/DI water. That includes the average water and sewer rates as well as replacement filters and DI resins in that nickel.
Pretty darn cheap and you can see it does not take long to pay for the RO/DI system not to mention you alone control your water quality.
