Monti. cap. encrusting/growing down

    Do you have any pics of it? Could be a Montipora species that is suppose to plate down.

    I'll get one. Both were plating when I bought them though. I fragged them both and not they're encrusting while the mother colony is growing down.

    Possible Montipora crassituberculata which can plate but tend to go straight out. The corallites look like they match in the second picture.

    The first picture looks like it has some ridges which remind me of Montipora delicatula. Delicatula gets misidentified as capricornis all the time.

    The other three pictures look like Montipora monasteriata because of the bumpy texture. This Monti plates downward.

    You might just have to be patient with it and let it grow out. For now try to keep a stable alk level. And keep it out of the direct light.

    +1 doesn't look like a capricornus to me.

    Picture 1 and 2 are the same. The first picture is when I bought it, the second was from yesterday.

    Here is a the purple monti (sold as Idaho Grape) that I bleached. This is the same coral as in picture 1-3:
