Right now my new SPS Monti fags are at the bottom of my tank about 20 inches under the Sunpod 2 150 watt 20000k Bulbs. How long should I keep them their? I just got these on Saturday. The Rainbow frag I see the orange and green polyps but the base is kinda brownish not blue. I am ordering a frag rack this week. What do you guys think of placement on a rack at the side of the tank versus the rock work which the coral would be more directly under the light.
    Thanks,
    Adam

    Hi Adam

bump to help you get answers

not an SPS keeper myself , so cant offer any valuable input

I do believe that if you know what type and intensity of light they where under before you got them, replicating that in your tank would be a good starting point

Montipora capricornis? If so, they like as much light as possible. Get 'em up high. Moderate to high flow is good. Keep your alk, calcium, and mag at reef levels.

I would totally agree whit Sparky's post . I myself told you a couple of months ago that a Monte Cap needs all the light it can get I just about 5 weeks ago acquired several different colors of Caps they had been under a 8 tube set of tek T5's in a 90 , I put them all under 3 400 W SPS 14K M/H and 2 48" VHO's in the same size tank and they are gaining coloration by the day . The purple rim is now reappearing on the green one and the tan/yellowis one is getting a orange/yellow rim again. I'd glue them to a 150 M/H myself. Give them all the light you can . My wife brought home a superman that was so faded I did put that on down on the very bottom but mostly because I wanted it grow there . But is coloring really well now in just 4 or 5 day its a 100% better looking.

I just ordered a frag rack so that will get it as high to the 150's as possible. I was going to put it against the back glass as that is closer to the light. I think my Blenny might be causing those little whitish areas on the Monti. It was the Purple one and not the Orange Cap. Dr Fragenstein thought maybe it is Asterina Stars. I do have them but I have only seen them on the back glass. The Orange Caps polyps are not out maybe because of the little white areas. It seems like the white areas heal and then maybe new ones appear.
