Just picked this up from a fellow hobbyist. Pretty sure it is a monti, but would like to know the type. Its hard to tell from my crappy pic, but it is greenish with little bluish purple polyps.

    Thoughts?

I believe it is a montipora capricornis.

That's a pretty broad category... any thoughts on the color identification?

Not sure of the commercial name. It may well be called a blue polyped cap. There are a few names. You might want to look at the big name guys' sites.

Look up flower petal Monti as a common name.

Yea, it looks close, but I haven't seen a purple rim around it yet.

I guess I will just have to wait and see!

TYREE flower petal monti refers to a Montipora Steve Tyree has lineage too. Like this Tyree Flower Petal Monti Colony :: AtlantisAquarium.net

Calling it an encrusting montipora for now is fine IMO. but slapping a name that refers to a specific strain is falsifying the coral. Unless you bought this as a Steve Tyree flower petal montipora?
