I posted on the COTM Monti....and I developed the Monti eating Nudibranch...I only had the coral for about 9 days now. Here are the before [IMG] the white is the sand from my dumb sandsifter.

Here is yesterday....[IMG]did FW dip and found what looked like a nudi....in the morning was just a small white section. I thought it was where the little growth broke off, went to work and just was amazed how in 6-7 hours the destruction was.

Now today the destruction has increased and the coral has infection...brown slime areas. I placed prazi-pro in the tank and am considering a six line wrasse as I read that can help with nudis. I am also considering dipping in lugols solution but not sure coral can survive it. Here are pictures of today
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

the other thing I am considering, and it is breaking my heart is totally fragging off the entire left side to see if I can salvage any of the coral...as the right side is only minimally affected...but it is also having some infection happening!

    Any suggestions please!

Frag the heck out of it before it's too late. I would also take the coral out of the tank and place in quarantine. I can't say that freshwater dipping the coral didn't stress it out more than was necessary. The problem with these nudibranchs is that while it is relatively easy to kill the adults, it is nearly impossible to kill the eggs. Take a look at the thread regarding quarantining corals to find out the name of the stuff that geekdafied used to kill off the eggs.

I used the prazi-pro as a dip and haven't had a problem since (crossing finger, toes, lips, eyes) I just made a dip using salt water and prazi-pro dipped the frags I had in it then put in to a quarantine tank. I left them in that tank for about 2 months waiting for the ones in the main tank to starve, then put them back in the main tank and all is well.

I fragged it:bigcry:. My cup coral that I have always wanted is now....I cant even say what it is....:bawling:. But I started to frag it even before you told me too...I knew I needed to do it if there was any chance of saving the coral! I do not have a drimmel tool yet...Will be going to buy one very soon, as I have never needed one before now, so it basically crumbled into many pieces...I cant even look at it to take pictures of it to show anybody:cry: but at least it is stil alive for now. And these grow very fast and I positioned the frags on the rock in a way that right now they look very ugly but if they grow, they should be cool!

Did you quarantine the coral? Is it the only monti in the tank? If the answer to either question is no, you may not be out of hot water yet.

yes I did QT it, no it is not my only monti...but I also placed it in QT. Is it alright that I placed it in same QT tank as the other one? It is actually not looking as bad as the other...it does have some sliming today but overall not bad!

I did not have my QT tank set up, but had my filter sponge seeded in my other tank and I took over half the water from the original tank that it was in.

I guess I should say, I am going to put it in QT...I am waiting for QT water to warm up a little...it is a tad cold as my stock saltwater was cold as I just made it yesterday. I will be putting them in there as soon as it warms up. Tested water, and water params are fine....added a little salt to make it same as tank

Question though...should I go buy a 6 line wrasse and place in QT also with it or just leave them be for now...other then treat them with prazi pro again?

I've never heard of a six line eating nudibranchs but even if they do, you would still have the eggs to contend with. It's better to be safe than sorry with your other nudibranch so I would definitely put it in the same QT as the one that is obviously affected. I would also plan on leaving your display tank monti free for several months as the nudibranchs may have laid eggs elsewhere in the tank.

The only dip to kill eggs can also kill the corals if not done just right. The monti nudi eggs are so tiny, makes them real hard to see.

I battled them, and had them spread through 3 tanks thinking I had got rid of them by just quarantining them. IMO, unless you're somewhat comfortable playing with dangerous chemicals, toss out the monti's. I went the dangerous chemical route and lost about 2/3s of my monti's but got rid of those SOB's.

It's so upsetting when this kind of thing happens, I hope that all your frags make it. Then you will have a tank full of them. Good Luck!
