Nothing bad about them. I had them on my old fixture but my new one doesn't have them. I miss them a little but not that much.

they only for aesthetics if they are just some leds. you should only have a watt or two above the tank more then that the fish will stay up. ive tried using a very small t5 9watts or so, it was way to bright even when i covered the glass with duck tape.

however if you buy some that simulate luna phases they may lead to coral/fish spawning.

If you are looking for moon lights check out:

48" 24 LED Moonlight Aquarium Moon Light with Dimmer - eBay (item 380105826324 end time Mar-22-09 20:17:28 PDT)

I purchased from this ebayer about 8 months ago and have had good luck with the lights. It comes with a dimmer, at full power they are very bright, I usually keep them on the lowest settings and its just right and they look Great.

This pic is at full power sice at low power its hard to get a shot of the tank(not enough light)

I have one little lunar light too. I have it turn on at 7pm and turn off at 3am. From 3am until 9am the tank is completely without lighting.

They are a great way to see what's going on after the lights go out.
    You'd be surprised.
