no worries about the algae, Ice, they arnt that bright, to worry about feeding the algae;)

i recently changed to the rope lighting, will post a pic Wed, i had 17 5000mcd LCDs on the tank, and as i must admit i like the look of the LEDs a bit better

with the LEDs you could aim the light at any given point, i had one of them aimed at one of my Zoanthid frags, looked very cool

with the rope light, it actually gives the whole tank a glow, instead of certin spots, which is kinda cool, have to wait till they come on till i can post a pic;) then american idol comes on, gota watch that;)

i might go back to the LEDs, just not sure

TD karma coming your way...American idol LOL.
I have mine on from 9 to 1 am and never had algae.
They are not bright at all but enough light to see everything and I would say they are a soft light.
Don't know for sure that this did not help in making by clowns spawn.

Home depot carries these as a stocked item so they are not seasonal. they have the clear white and red. Little lights in a thick plastic blue rope is all they are.

Ok, what is the diffrence in a rope light than using a standard 40 watt blue party bulb with a dimmer? With the dimmer I could make the light follow the pattern of intensity of the moon?

IVE SEEN ROPE LIGHT ON THE INTERNET BUT ITS 1 BULB PER IN ~0.5W PER BULB. FOR A 6FT ROPE LIGHT THATS 36W!!!! ISNT THAT QUITE A BIT FOR MOONLIGHT. MOST MOONLIGHTS ARE ONLY 1-2WATTS PER 2FT OF TANK
