Can anyone tell me how many LED's I need for a 6' long x 18'' wide and 24'' deep tank?

I bought a DIY kit that has 4 -18'' strips of Blue LED lights on them and was wondering if I got too much!??! Each 18'' strip has 17 LED lights on them for a total of 68 LED's.

Is it possible to have it be too bright for them at night?

It is possible to have it too bright, but I don't know anything about fixtures, other than my tank has 6 LEDs, on a 38 x 21 x 22 display portion.

Yes my 55 has 6 or 8 moonlight leds. And that's almost to bright for my taste. So that will give you an idea.

    way too many lol
I have 5 Current USA moonlights in white and a strip of blue led moonlights that I took from my old tank. In total maybe 10-12? it gives off a whitish blue hue that isnt too bright imo

    Man....I totally overestimated that one.
I am trying to see if I can return them and get new ones.

They are in a kit sort of with 4 - 18'' bars all wired together.
Maybe I can cut them?.....but the lights are on a strip and each light is 2'' apart so its gonna be tough. Unless I tape over the lights every 4''-5''....and use them that way......they dont get too hot! ......but what a waste of money.

yeah I would look for something else personally.. I even tried running a blue 12" cold cathode over my 72gal before and it was too bright.

the 10-12 leds that I listed above is on my 180gal, the same dimension tank you have

You could always lower the power on the lights, if you feel like going with a soldering iron. That way, you get more uniform light coverage, without the "enough for daylights" brightness.

I like that last idea... To expand on it more, you could chop the lead at the beginning of the line and put a pottentialmeter on it. That way you can modify the overall brightness without excessive modifications.
