Just wondering if anyone has one in their tanks, and what theyre feeding them and how.
I know they eat shrimp, fish, crab meat, etc but i was wondering if people are feeding them with a feeder prong or letting it sit on the bottom til he stalks it overnight.

i feed mine whole white bate, prawns, whole bell squid, frozen cubes of mysis, brine, beef heart, marine dinner. i only feed him what he eats out of my hand that way he is trained to eat by hand and doesnt go for the fish and knows where to go for food. its also a good way to figure out your eels personality and if he doesnt come for food when he normally would then you can figure if something is wronge. getting them to come out of their cave is also a great way to check for fungus or infections or cuts from rocks etc.

never leave the food in there coz you wont know if he is eating it or if a crab has taken it ( i had feed my crab as well) and if the food gets lost in the tank it will rot and pollute the tank lots. and seeing as t
the food being fed is much like a whole fish (and in some cases is) then rotting eel food is not good for the system.

get to know your eel and you will have lots of fun :D

I cant seem to find where hes hiding today, lids nice and secure so i know he didnt climb on out, i dont think he would of gotten far if he did.
I have only had him for a few days so i wonder if he is still getting adjusted to life in his new home, i fed my zebra dwarf lions yesterday so there are still a few ghost shrimp hiding out in the tank, when i get home tomorrow ill try feeding him again and seeing how he does.
I tried some squid on a feeding prong and he didnt want that, i even tried to make it look like it was swimming by him so he might get the picture its food....
They seem to like to bury themselves a hole under the rocks so they can hide better, hes hiding really well today

I feed mine Silversides (large) and store bought minnow's. I just drop it in the tank and scent bring's him out. Since starting this feeeding he quit bothering with shrimp and krill. I feed him twice a week.

+1 oh hand feeding. Mine would play tug or war with silversides! I have read silverside might not be pro though. If i get another he will eat chopped squid, raw shrimp, etc...

give him time he will come out when he is ready, but make sure you keep looking for him so you know he IS still there lol. they love to move rock around to make the perfect hole, if you want you can put some pvc pipe in the tank for him to hide in. try to stay away from live feeds as once they are on them they are hard to get off

IMO feeding any animal by hand is a bad idea. Over time they can start to associate your hand entering the tank with food and may end up biting you. Snowflakes have a pretty good bite with a lot of bacterias that can lead to infection. I always fed mine frozen cubed food. I would put it in my long tongs and just hold it on the bottom. She loved wrestling with the tongs for her meal.

I got both the lions and eel from live aquaria, and they told me the eel was being fed frozen krill, silversides and various pieces of seafood frozen so i have been using everything so far except the frozen krill and silversides i am going to make a run a little later today to see if the eel would prefer the other two vs the seafood buffet.

The lions on the other hand were being fed live ghost shrimp according to the rep. hence the live shrimp. Theyre only about an inch and a half big so they still have some time to be trained how to eat frozen foods, with them for now im goin to stick to the ghost shrimp so they dont stop eating on me.
