Read up on that ray. As said here already the min tank size is 300gal. So a 75 isn't even close. I hope your not going to just get what you want, regarldess if it is safe for the fish.

Try doing research on on the species from sites or books that aren't selling the Ray.

I talked to my LFS about them yesterday and they said they won't even order them because the requirements are too specific and it would be doomed to die in the wrong environment.

    +1.

Take naso tangs for an example of this, they get around 14-18" . . . I have seen sites wanting to sell you one saying min tank size is 55 gallons . Anyone with any sense would agree a 180+ minimum for long term keeping of this fish, and thats still pushing it.

Bluespots are amazing looking rays, but in your case might be better off in the ocean or in someone else's tank.

I know everything that has been said above is not what you want to hear, especially considering the very cool fish we are discussing. But, truth be told, a 75g tank is nowhere big enough for the ray. Even for a blue tang it is considered bare minimum (and there are some on this site who would tell you that you need a 6' long tank minimum for any tang.....I don't know that I necessarily agree with that, but a 75g is definitely the barest minimum for a tang).

So my strong suggestion is leave the ray out of the planning, and if you do get a tang get a very small one and be aware that you may need to trade it away as it grows.

I agree, most websites selling fish under-estimate minimum tank size for large fish, or maybe not under-estimate, but they REALLY mean MINIMUM for that animal to stay alive for a short period of time. To live a long healthy life, grow to it's full potential, and die of old age they usually need significantly larger tanks for these large fish.

The minimum tank sizes for smaller fish (maybe 5-6" and under) are usually more realistic. I assume this is because it may be difficult to sell larger fish when you say they require 300g tanks.

there are many fish just as cool that you could get for that tank. try a lionfish. i think they are really cool and a 75 would be perfect for one.
