Shouldn't be skimmer section is always at a constant water level. I've just had it overflow a few times and hated it so probably set the level too low. CUC is from reefcleaners and I think they gave me about x3 times the amount suggested for a 75 (no really they WAY over shipped :p).

Back to the feeding... I deff.. don't think that I over feed. I have actually been looking in to trying to allow more feeding time for my corals by possibly removing the filter sock. I have read and would think that this would allow for more food/feeding time for my corals. Current feeding ritual is to turn off return (was turning off majority of flow, not sure what would be best with new wavemaker), and squirt some phyto/roto in where it appears it will best benefit the corals. Wait around 30-45 mins turn pumps back on, occasionally target feed mysis. Anyone have a better ritual, that would not be overly time consuming? Better foods to feed? I guess that I could be over feeding the phyto/roto, but since its addition I have not seen any negative nitrate trends.

But you don't currently have SPS taking a bunch of calcium out of your water. Stable parameters are key and the best way to maintain stability is to have a dosing mechanism.

You can also put the make up water in a remote location.

Not that water changes shouldn't be used for this, but rather you shouldn't have to use them for that. I haven't had a persistant nitrate issue in 15 years and all I do is have a good skimmer coupled with some sort of macro algae and sand bed.

I think you hit tbe nail on the head with your fw analogy. The equipment is probably nt as important as the wc. Doubly so for SW. Im surprised your cal. Has remained the same. This could be an indication of high phoshates hindering your corals ability to use cal. Etc...i could be wrong though.
