More height or more depth?

The last month or so I have been consumed with getting a larger tank. I found a great deal locally for a 220g but I find myself wishing the dimensions were a little different. It's 72" x 24"d x 30"h and I think I'd rather have it 30"d and 24"h. I'm wondering what peoples opinions are on front to back depth versus top to bottom height. My concern with the 30" height is I don't think I'll be able to reach the bottom.

I also would much rather have depth than height.

If you wanted a 6" DSP in the DT that would bring the top of the sand to 24".

With a taller tank you'll need stronger lights as well so I like the 24' tall and then a deeper tank, though I'll still have problems reaching the center back as I'm short.

Height will give more water volume in the same footprint.. But.. Depth while a larger footprint will give more surface area for gas exchange and scapeing space.

Skyfire I know that sounds like a good idea, but you always want a remote DSB. If it gets stirred up or disturbed the released organics could shut down his entire tank.

24" seems to be about the limit of my arms reach. I guess if you have longer arms than me, 30" may be ok. I agree with what others have said though.

    24" tall is nice, 24-30" depth looks great. hence the popularity of the 72 x 30 x 24 (H) 225 gallon aquarium.

I have a 25 tall and 30 deep. My tank is in a wall so having the deeper tank makes it look a lot smaller than it is from the other side of the wall. It's usually not until I open the door that people truly realize how big the tank is. One nice thing about the 25 is you can actually reach the bottom of the tank without putting on a pair of goggles ang going for a swim. I think if I had the room I would have rather gone with a longer tank than wide or deep. Just my opinion though.
